i was never someone who'd just go and jump into a bandwagon. fads and hypes were never my thing. maybe im just too much of a non-conformist. maybe im just too critical on my art. maybe. in any case... i think lomo sucks. hard eh? id like to delete that last statement but i think my backspace key just got broken...
...then i think i should just rephrase it. selling the lomo exclusivity and making the majority its consumer definitely rakes of bullshit. be different and capture shots that veers away from the 'rules' (take note of the quotes) of traditional photography. lomography tells you to express individuality, in that sense it is special, but at the same time it takes no skill at all, because in lomo a bad shot is never a bad shot. a blurred photo is not blurred... its just uhmmm...a lomo effect. right? so how can lomo be so special, when everyone else is doing it?
and then we have the word. lomo. LOMO. LOMO LOMO. by being the exact opposite of what most try to achieve and capture in traditional photography (sharpness, detail, color balance, lighting, expsosure, etc) lomo just achieved in setting its own rules, in drawing its own red line.
by trying to deviate from the 'norms' it just created its own. how convenient.
but one thing young mr. lomo failed to realize is that in photography there are no real rules. so it deviated from nothing but created something. 'norms' and 'rules' in photography are existential non-essentials (huh?). they're there but not quite. shed them off whenever you like and pick them up when needed. that is photography.
but in lomo a photo is not lomo unless it adheres to the basic concept of the 'lomo effect'. as such art is constrained. sad.
honestly, i just dont quite get it.
then how about me? i choose any camera and my laptop to be my arsenal. i choose whatever it takes to make art. i choose. i choose and i create. sticking to lomo you cant. heck, if a certain photo demands it i might even use the lomo effect to create whats needed. so if it comes to deciding on what i really am, i dont mind if people would tell me that im not a real photographer since i do so much outside the constraints of phtography to improve my works. after all you can find photgraphers in luneta selling photos at 30 pesos a pop. so... id rather call myself an artist. (no offense meant to them, i respect people doing honest work, they're good at what they do and thats what matters). *flame suit on.
i take art seriously. and not just because i made it that it is art or beautiful for that matter.
lomo is just another excuse for people to brand anything as art.
if you're a lomo fan chances are that you might want to break my nose and kick my balls after reading this blog, if thats the case then im in no liberty to blame anyone, but just to be on the safe side i should stress that all im im saying is that right now "i dont like lomo" or more specifically the constrained concept of lomo... NOT "you should not like lomo" nor that im saying that im better than everybody else nor there's no art in lomo, nor people who think lomo is cool are uncool. that is not the case.
only...this is my stand. this is my paint on the canvass. define yours.
